There are two search options -- Search and Advanced Search. Both search options are available in the top right hand corner of all pages within The Denver Public Library Archives Finding Aids. Searches performed from The Denver Public Library Archives Finding Aids home page will search across all online finding aids. Searches performed from a specific finding aid will yield results from that finding aid only.
The Search is a full text search. It searches the text of the entire finding aid.
Wild Card: wild card is "*" e.g. conserv* will retrieve conservatory, conservation, and conserve.
Exact Phrase: Use quotes to specify exact phrase searching. e.g., "Rocky Mountain" will retrieve findings aids that contain the exact phrase Rocky Mountain.
Case Sensitive: All search terms are NOT case sensitive: Enter gold or Gold or GOLD and they will all yield the same results.
Use the Advanced Search function to search defined elements within the finding aid e.g. title or subject.
Boolean Searches: Terms or phrases can be joined by the qualifiers AND or OR. The terms in a boolean search are entered into separate text boxes and then the button for either AND or OR is selected. For example, wolves entered into the Title, manuscript entered into Text and the AND button selected will produce results that have the wolves in the title and manuscript in the text of the finding aid.
Exact Phrase: Use quotes to specify exact phrase searching. e.g., "Rocky Mountain" will retrieve finding aids that contain the exact phrase Rocky Mountain.
In addition to the boolean search, there are 4 options by which a search can be restricted to particular parts of the encoded
